When it comes to making money online through affiliate marketing, you need a rock to stand on. There has to be a foundation to start building upon, and in my opinion, there is no finer 2 tier affiliate marketing network than Shareasale. The name of this company tells it all. They provide a home for merchants and affiliates within a very effective environment with the same goal: Make money online.

This network saves you time and effort. They have within their membership, many hundreds of awesome merchants with diverse products and services. You can earn commissions on the first level through pay per sale, pay per lead and even some pay per click programs. If you recruit members into the program yourself, you get an instant 5% of any sales those affiliates make.

If you have not yet joined this wonderful network, please consider doing so now. It is absolutely my favorite network for a lot of reasons. The founder, Brian Littleton has been the recipient of several top awards for the way he runs the network.

In 2006 he and Shareasale received the AFP "Affiliate Fair Play award", and in 2007 he and his company were recognized by the Affiliate Summit and received "Affiliate Summit Pinnacle Award" for "Affiliate Marketing Advocate".

Shareasale has this really cool tool called "make a page". At first this simplistic title might lead you to believe it makes a template or something, like many online site builders do. Not so. This tool allows the affiliate to display any number of selected products on a page with description, price, SKU, manufacturer and other elements. Oh, and a picture goes with it.

What can this mean for you if you produce, or are considering producing websites offering products for sale?

It means you have a FREE custom built HTML page with indexable textual information that the search engines welcome. What a great tool this really is, and it is only one of many effective affiliate tools developed by the team at Shareasale. These product displays create a very effective text content set for search engines to index. Very effective money making tool.

I want to show you one of the sites I have created with this tool, and with the help of another Shareasale tool called "create a custom link to a page". This page has been responsible for many sales. In conjunction with Shareasale, I utilize a great advertising site called USFreeAds. This is a very high traffic site that allows you to advertise products for sale, and they have no exclusions for affiliates. I create many ads on this service as a Premium Member. This only costs $9.99 a month, and I am able to have full html capabilities on the site. I have built sports display ads, watch display ads and many others. In most cases, I use my Shareasale merchant product displays for this service. I actually build these product display sites, or niche sites, on both USFreeAds and on my domain.

Ok, so how do you make money? Well first you must apply for membership, and of course, it is FREE to affiliates. Merchants must pay for the service, but I want to tell you the PRICING FOR MERCHANTS is very reasonable. Much less than the big names in the business.

Shareasale is owned and run by good people who care about the affiliates and the merchants, and when you write to them for help, they respond. They don't send a ticket like some other networks I could mention, but they send an email within a reasonable time with the answer to your question. I love that. Heck, the last time I sent an inquiry the founder of the company wrote back to me. I was astonished at this. Just high quality all the time. I trust it will never change. I depend on it!

After your approval as an affiliate, you are free to join merchant programs. Use the "View and Search Merchant List" to do this. Also, you must join the Shareasale affiliate program. I recommend this because if you recruit new affiliates under you in the 2nd tier, you will earn a 5% sales commission from their sales through the network. (joining the network as an affiliate does not automatically enroll you in the separate Shareasale affiliate program to recruit sub-affiliates - you must join it separately just like any other program within their own network) I hope this makes sense to you.

Not every merchant in the Shareasale system uses the data feeds or the product display. I believe this is an option for merchants that they can take advantage of to increase sales. When you have signed up for programs then you can start making websites to advertise the products and services of merchants you represent.

Commission is calculated in a wide variety of ways. You can get qualified to earn "pay per click", "pay per lead" or "pay per sale". I specialize in "pay per sale", but I also have a few offers out there advertising some "pay per lead" opportunities. You must decide which ones work for you. After you get to be an educated affiliate, you will start making money. 

Now let's just take this discussion a bit further; You sign up today to become a new Shareasale Affiliate, and over time you join many merchant affiliate programs through Shareasale. You then also join the Shareasale Network affiliate program, and begin advertising it too. As time goes by, you will begin to develop 2 revenue streams from this effort.

1. Direct commissions paid to you monthly for your direct merchant sales

2. 5% sales overrides paid to you for the sales of those you bring into the network. This is a form of residual income for the member in that as long as the sub affiliates you sign up continue to produce sales, you will continue to receive the 5% sales overrides. This is a wonderful aspect of this network that most other networks do not give to members. Just another reason why I love Shareasale.

I just looked at my Shareasale account, and one of my sub-affiliates made a sale and my commission was there in black and white, added to the cummulative total for the month. I use these product displays to enhance my blogs, retail sites and web 2.0 content generation. The "make a Page" tool is the best thing I have seen in a long time from any affiliate network. I have made many sales from my product displays because they include the individual products, a description and a link to the merchant's product page with your affiliate ID embedded within it. This is simply one of many great ways to make money with Shareasale!

Within the Shareasale network there are too many merchants to list here, so I won't do that. However, I do want to let you know that there are some really high quality merchants within this network that are great to work for. Products that almost sell themselves make it that much easier to be a winner in affiliate marketing.
